Look how far we’ve come
After ten thousand years of so-called civilisation, we have harnessed wood and stone, tilled all the soil and fished the seas to the furthest reaches, and hauled oil and minerals from the depths. We have grown strong, but we still stand on one another’s toes- and crush the earth with greater force. Is there time left for us to look at one another- is there time to grow up?

We are the generations following the missions that sent seven crews of men to the moon. All returned safely, after twelve walked in the dust. Six drove in their electric buggies and one played golf. Pointing their cameras down from orbit, we see with them the pale blue dot on which we live- our delicate spherical spaceship harbouring water, air and life, and some 8,186,861,096 people, as of Saturday, November 9, 2024
